The First Snowfall E-mail
Written by Dana Adkins

Snow used to cover the acres of frozen grass for more months than not, it seemed, in our backyard where I lived as a child.  Huge oak trees dotted our lawn, branches smothered in the snow piled so high, if you even touched one it would all tumble down.  The first snowfall was always the most memorable.  Walking out of our two-story wood house, painted a light blue, the flakes would gently fall on your shoulders and tongue, persuading you to get excited about the winter to come.  Waking up the morning after the first flake hit the ground, everything looked magical.  There were no footsteps ruining the pristine perfection of the white mass spreading across our yard.

Bible Has Dreams? E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann, Author, Lecturer, Dream Researcher

The very first happening in one’s sleep in the Bible comes in Genesis 2:21-22, God made Adam to fall into a deep sleep and while he was sleeping, took one of his ribs and created Eve.  And we have been spending a portion of each day, ever since, sleeping. Could God create something wonderful from us also? My belief, and I’m not alone, is that this is our own two-way connection to our creator.

The Eyes are closed E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann, Author, Lecturer, Dream Researcher

Dear Carol, After seven years of being together, my fiancé suddenly died in 2002. Since then, I have had a number of dreams about him every year. In each one, George is sitting at his desk and I am talking to him about something. But his eyes are always closed and it feels as if he is looking beyond me although he is aware of my presence.

A Reader's Dream E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann, Author, Lecturer, Dream Researcher

Carol, Should I play the lottery?  My dream was that I had won $600,000.00 in the lottery but I was disappointed. It was not enough. Afraid someone would steal it, I shoved it all in a backpack that I strapped onto my back and carried everywhere.  It had been 2,052 hours since I won and the money was disappearing fast enough. I now only had $60,000.00.  I was so worried; I’d only had 25 hours of sleep in the 85 days since I won. There are a lot of numbers there and I wonder if I should play them.

A Readers Dream Question E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann, Author, Lecturer, Dream Researcher

Reader Question – I dreamed that my niece got into trouble and needed an abortion.  What should I do?  Should I tell her? She is only 13.

Answer – You are assuming this is a prediction. That is not necessarily so. Just in case it is, tell her about the dream. It might be a good idea to have another person present, like her mother and other female members of the family. Tell it like it is a big joke that you don’t believe. This can open several doors of needed communication that otherwise might never come up.

Peeling an Onion E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann

Author of “Prison Dreams” and “God Speaks In Dreams; Connect With Him and Each Other” Dream Group Leader and Lecturer

Interpreting a dream is much like peeling back the layers of an onion. That’s why a group approach is helpful. You may think you know what a dream is about until you hear the opinions of others. It helps to have some friends to share them. In our groups we begin our comments with the words “If it were my dream..” This way, we are taking any unkind or harsh words onto ourselves, not judging the dreamer.

Another Prison Dream E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann

In a room of about twenty inmates, one (she looked to be about 25) stood to tell her dream.  I wrote the key words on the board; one, so we’d all remember and two, so we could examine closely each word.  “I dreamed my boy friend was laying in a morgue and they called me in to identify his body.  I walked into a room of metal drawers on one wall.  One was pulled out and a body lay covered by a sheet.  The attendant pulled back the sheet.  Yes, that’s him, I said.  His mother was in the corner crying and shouting, a little crazy like I suppose a mother would do.  I turned and began to walk out.

Actual Reported Dream E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann

Let’s get into an actual dream.  This one came from an inmate in a women’s prison who attended my dream class there.  I went in every Thursday night for about three years and many of the original group stuck with me for the full three years.  Towards the end, she reported this dream.

Dreams - Common Questions E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann
1) Some people question the source of dreams, thinking the Bible is against the practice.  This can’t be further from the truth.  No place does it say not to follow your own  dreams.  In fact the Bible writers encourage you to understand. There are reported to be over 120 dreams in the Bible.  Why have them there if we are not to learn from them.  One of my strongest visual aids is my Bible with small colorful rectangles marking a lot of the dreams.

Dream Misconceptions E-mail
Written by Carol Oschmann
Carol Oschmann is author of “Prison Dreams,” “God Speaks In Dreams: Connect With Him and Each Other,” and is leader of the Sun City Center Dream Circle, and lecturer.

Misconception number one is that we don’t all dream.  The truth is that everyone dreams. It is necessary to your mental health, as proven by scientific experiments.  Ever watch a baby or pet sleep?  It is easy to see when they dream; the feet, hands and paws will be working while the rest of the body seems to be asleep.  Sometime in your life, you have turned off the dreams.  We’ll talk more of that in future columns.  You can turn them back on.
