Local Walmart Awards Community Grant to Program for Intellectually Disabled E-mail

Field Trip with photo opportunities is planned for Tuesday, October 18th at 10:00 a.m.

BRANDON, Fla. – (10-14-11) – Walmart Store #941 at 949 Bloomingdale Avenue recently awarded a $250 Community Grant to Brandon Sports and Aquatics Center’s (BSAC) new Team TRIDENT Program.  Team TRIDENT members and instructors are planning to return to the store to express their gratitude and use the money to purchase supplies needed for the program.

Newsome High School Wolfpack Marching Band Hosts Marching Festival E-mail

Lithia, FL – The Four-Time Florida Marching Band Coalition Finalist Newsome High School Wolfpack Marching Band kicks off another marching season with its show entitled “For Our Freedom”, a medley of World War II big bad classics. Practices began one week after school ended in June in preparation for the upcoming season. Under the direction Christian Finch, the band worked  all summer long, completing a week of heat intensified band camp, as well as its 8 to 10 hour per week practice schedule.

Local Girl Selected For Miss American Preteen Pageant For 2011 E-mail

Miss Alexis Castro, age 11, daughter of Mr. Hiram Castro and Mrs. Mercedes Castro of Riverview, has been selected to represent Riverview, Florida at the 2011 Miss American Preteen Pageant. She qualified by placing as a top finalist in one of the contests held at the annual Miss Florida Preteen Pageant for 2011.

Ella Chadwell and Jimmy Silva Bringing Back Classic Jazz with a Latin Flair E-mail

VALRICO, Florida (SEPT 25, 2011) – When Ella Chadwell was a little girl growing up near Ybor City, she lived in what she now calls “an enchanted time.” Family gatherings in the living room where she sang, danced and played maracas with her older brothers; Carl, jamming away at the piano, Wayne on the drums, and Morris on the trumpet. They played those wonderful jazz, latin and pop songs of the 1950’s. Ella loved watching her mom and dad dancing the “mambo” and “jitter bug.” It was a home filled with music, love and laughter where “Ella Girl”, as her daddy endearingly named her, learned to love music … the beautiful yesterdays of her life.

ALLENDALE, MICHIGAN:  Grand Valley State University announces the names of students who were placed on the dean’s list for the Winter 2011 semester ending April 30, 2011 that have a permanent address outside the state of Michigan. The list includes those students who have maintained a 3.5 grade point average and been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits. The honor is noted on the students’ official records.

Jake is the son of Tanya and Allen Liberato of Brandon.

Claudia María Valentín was chosen to represent our Riverview Community by traveling abroad to Europe this summer. She is a freshman student at Riverview High School and is very proud to carry People to People’s mission. People to People was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956 and his goal was to bring world peace between countries through student interaction around the world.
