Tampa, FL (August 19, 2013) –A number of Hillsborough County animal advocacy organizations are stepping forward as a coalition to support all the positive changes that have occurred at our shelter since the management change occurred a little over a year and a half ago. The coalition includes two of the most influential animal organizations in Hillsborough County: the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and the Animal Coalition of Tampa, which together are responsible for spaying and neutering over 22,000 animals over the past year and over 300,000 since the clinics opened.

Local Girl Scout Troop And Hillsborough County Partner For “Paws Fur A Cause” E-mail

Apollo Beach (April 3, 2013) – Local Girl Scout Junior Troop 1950 in partnership with Hillsborough County will host “Paws Fur a Cause” to help raise public awareness for responsible pet ownership on May 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Girl Scouts will facilitate fun activities for pets and their owners including a one-mile walk/run, a field fetch and obstacle course contest, and a “furry fashion show.” Each activity will cost $5.00. There will also be activities for young children, and prizes and gifts will be awarded throughout the event. Proceeds will directly benefit Elmira’s Wildlife Sanctuary in Wimauma, FL.

Cassandra Mattison was named 2012-13 Teacher of the Year for Hillsborough County E-mail

Give Kids a Smile Event by Suncoast Community Health Centers E-mail

On Feb. 1st, 2013, Suncoast Community Health Centers was proud to host the Give Kids a Smile Event. Suncoast’s staff, along with volunteer dental professionals from our community, provided over $48,850.00 in donated preventive and restorative dental services to 46 children. Although the event was a huge success, it also draws attention to the great need to for children’s dental services in our community. Suncoast Community Health Centers is committed to improving access to dental care, especially preventive care, for all children in our community.

BSAC Announces Strikers Pride Soccer E-mail

Brandon, FL  February 5, 2013.  The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce the addition of Strikers Pride Soccer, coached by Edmar “Dimas” Amaral. Coach “Dimas” has played all levels of youth soccer, all the way up to professional with the Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Prior he was the head coach and trainer for six years for Players Club of Tampa Bay (both competitive and developmental programs). He was also the head coach and trainer for the Bay Area Youth Soccer League (BAYSL) for two years. He presently is head coach for the Houston dynamo, and holds FYSA, F, E and D licenses.

Lunch at the Trinity Café E-mail

This past Christmas Eve, I had the opportunity to serve lunch at the Trinity Café.  Some of you may be asking, why is that so special?  This lunch service was special because it was my opportunity to give back.

The Trinity Café is a place where the homeless and needy can come each weekday to receive a free meal, no questions asked.  The café is housed in the Salvation Army building on Florida Avenue in Tampa.

School Eligible to win $10,000 in Prize Money for Sustainable Project

Burlington, MA (January 10, 2013) -- Scotties, a leader in the tissue industry is pleased to announce the top 12 entries in their “Trees Rock” Video Contest. Ryan Mish in cooperation with his sister Rachel of Veteran’s Elementary is one of the finalists eligible to win a large cash prize plus funding for a project to beautify their school or community.  Kids who entered the contest were required to create a video up to 3 minutes on the importance of trees -- to themselves, their school, and their community.
