The Florida Youth Football and Cheerleading Association was created in Hillsborough County to provide a safe, secure, competitive and fun environment for children to learn football and cheerleading. The FYFCA is composed of fourteen organizations in Hillsborough, Polk and Pasco counties and includes the Antioch Redskins, the Brandon Cowboys, the Brandon Lions, the Brandon Broncos, the Brandon Bears, the Dover Patriots, the East Bay Bucs, the Lakeland Gators, the Lakeland Eagles, the Pinecrest Pilots, the Plant City Dolphins, the Turkey Creek Trojans, the Valrico Rams, and the Wesley Chapel Cowboys.
The league is divided into two divisions: the "American Division" and the "National Division", each consisting of seven teams, and play two (2) preseason exhibition games and ten (10) regular season games. Two playoff games follow, culminating with the Conference Super Bowl game.
Practice begins July 9, 2012 and the season ends in early November.
There are five age and weight divisions for football. They are the Mighty Mites (5-6@85, 7@55), the Pee Wees (7-9@105, 9@70), the Midgets (9-10@125, 11@90), the Junior Varsity (11-12@150, 13@110), and the Varsity (13-14 @175, 15@135).
Cheerleaders have five age groups, the Mighty Mites (5-7), the Pee Wees (7-9), the Midgets (9-11), the Junior Varsity (11-13) and the Varsity (13-15).
Regular Season Football Games
All regular season football games are held on Saturdays. The current schedule of kickoffs is as follows: Mighty Mites - 9:00 a.m.; Pee Wees - 10:30 a.m.; Midget - 12:00 p.m.; ; Junior Varsity - 1:30 p.m.; Varsity - 3:30 p.m. This schedule may vary in certain circumstances, including inclement weather and the need for make-up games. No games are scheduled for the Labor Day weekend. Of course, this is subject to change if it is necessary for make- up games.
