PRESS RELEASE  Brandon, FL  March 6, 2014, The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce that three Blue Wave swimmers, all students at Strawberry Crest High School, have made their college commitments at the school’s formal signing ceremony held March 5, 2014. Angelina Gallestegue (18) will attend the University of West Florida, and Cole Wisecarver (18) and Zachary Kitzis (18) will attend Florida Atlantic University. Blue Wave Girls Come Up 4A State Champions  E-mail

Brandon, FL November 18, 2013 - The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce that three Blue Wave swimmers came up FSHAA 4A State Champions in Stuart, Florida on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Maddie Hess was the first place champion of the 100 yard freestyle, the 100 yard backstroke, and  the 200 free relay. Sarah Neely and Lauren Harper received first place finishes, along with Maddie, in the 200 free relay. All girls attend Newsome High School.

Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center Adds Ron Turner as New Blue WAve Swim Team Head Coach  E-mail

The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce Ron Turner as the new Head Coach of its world renowned Blue Wave Swim Team. Ron is a USA Swimming National Team coach who comes to us from Atlanta, Georgia where he was the Lead coach of Stingrays Swimming. Previously, he was the head coach of the Jiangsu Swim Team in Nanjing, China where he coached numerous Chinese National Team members.

BSAC's Blue Wave Swim Team at FLAGS  E-mail

The Blue Wave Swim Team at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center ended the 2013 Short Course Season with significant accomplishments at FLAGS (Florida Age Group Championships) held in Orlando March 7-10, Senior Sectionals held in Ft. Lauderdale March 14-17, and NCSA Junior Nationals held in Orlando March 13-16, 2013. Most notably, at FLAGS the team was able to come in 16th out of 48 teams with individual points from Isabelle Bularca, Mariah Sawyer, Erin Schulte, Megan Strynar, Katie Vasiloff, Morgan Shinault, Connor Coronado, and Alonzo Biala. Morgan Shinault earned 2nd Place Overall for Girls 10 and Under competition.

Chris Colwill to Direct New Dive Team at The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center  E-mail

LITHIA, FL.  September 28, 2012. The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce that our own Two Time Olympic Diver Chris Colwill will be developing our new Blue Wave Diving program, with plans to initiate the program this coming March of 2013. Chris trained at BSAC from his early youth through his high school years and then attended the University of Georgia where he was the 2006 NCAA Diver of the Year, and has medaled at the NCAA Championships, SEC  Championships, U. S. Open, Canadian Cup, and FINA World Championships. Says Chris, “I am truly excited to be back home, get back to my roots, and help kids get better at something I really love.”

Despite The Story Weather, BSAC's First Annual Dash and Splash Aquathon Was A Huge Success  E-mail

Lithia, FL: Despite near-storm conditions on Sunday, September 9, the people came out at 7:00 a.m.: children, families, athletes, amateurs, and the race was on!  Over 200 participants and 15 vendors came out to show their support for our first annual Dash and Splash Aquathon.

Blue Wave Swimmer Niko Milosavljevic Places 3rd Croatian Open Water Swim  E-mail

Congratulations to Niko Milosavljevic, swimmer for The Blue Wave Swim Team at The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, for placing 3rd overall at the Zadar Marathon Swim in Croatia. Niko swam from the island of Preko  to the island of Zadar  and completed the 3 mile swim in 57 minutes and 34 seconds. Finishing third overall in the Men’s Division, Niko is a 13 year old student at Mulrennan Middle School. This was the 40-year Anniversary of the Zadar Marathon Swim.

Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center's Maddie Hess Qualifies for U. S. Olympic Team Trials  E-mail

Brandon, FL.  December 5, 2011 - The Blue Wave Swim Team’s Maddie Hess qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at U.S. Senior Nationals in Atlanta on Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:17.94, making it by .06. On Friday, December 2 she swam the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 58.10, breaking Blue Wave Olympian Maritza Correia’s Girls’ 13-14 record.

Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center's Maddie Hess Breaks Records and Qualifies for Senior Nationals  E-mail

Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center’s Blue Wave Swim Team celebrates the recent accomplishments of Maddie Hess (14). At the recent Florida Age Group Championships (FLAGS) Maddie took first place in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:05.14, qualifying her for The Senior National Championships being held this December in Atlanta. In the 200 meter backstroke she swam another Senior National qualifying time, taking second place and breaking a Girls’ 13/14 FLAG record. Both swims broke Blue Wave Swim Team records for Girls’ 13/14 and Senior Women. Her 100 yard freestyle took a third place with a Junior National time of 59.18. Free Swim Lessons Available for Qualified Candidates  E-mail

The Make a Splash Foundation at USA Swimming has provided a grant to the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center to provide free learn-to-swim classes for qualified candidates. If your child is between the ages of 3 and 12 and currently qualifies for School Readiness, the Healthy Meals Express Free and Reduced Lunch program, or similar programs, please call the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center at (813) 689-0908, Ext. 13 to apply. There are 30 spots available on a first come/first serve basis.

Brandon Sports And Aquatic Center is recognized as a “Make a Splash Local Partner,” one of over 210 providers across the nation who has committed to the USA Swimming Foundation’s goal of helping provide the opportunity for every child in America to learn to swim.

Blue Wave Swim Team Claims 9 Top 3 Finishes and 2d Place Overall  E-mail

The Blue Wave Swim Team at The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center claimed 2d place overall at the Winter Haven Long Course Season Opener Swim Meet at the Rowdy Gaines Center April 15, 16, and 17. Seven swimmers had finishes in the Top 3, from left to right: Garrett McGovern (8), Abiel Rosario (8), Maddie Hess (14), Barbara Carabello (15), Morgan Shinault (8). Blue Wave Swim Team Splashes for the Cause  E-mail

89 Members of the Blue Wave Swim Team swam their way to brand new lane lines as they put in their laps for their sponsors at The Annual Blue Wave Splash A Thon held Saturday, April 9, 2011. Several Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center staff members swam as well, including Executive Director Chuck Burgess, Blue Wave Swim Team Head Coach Justin  Correia, Aquatics Director Theresa Hickey, Director of Maintenance and Mixed Martial Arts Patrick Scully, and Tennis Shack of Florida Owner and Operator Tim Plossl. Over $8,000 was raised for the cause. Congratulations, Big Blue!

Big Payoff For Year Round Regimens Of Disciplined, Focused Training For Some Young Athletes At The Brandon Sports And Aquatic Center.  E-mail

Brandon, FL. March 22, 2011. Year round regimens of disciplined, focused training have certainly paid off for some young athletes at The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center.

At the Florida Age Group Championships held in Clearwater on February 18-20, the Blue Wave Swim Team swam 53 best times, breaking records (previously held for 15 years) in two 13/14 Girls Relay events. Members of The Girls 13/14 relay team are Maddie Hess, Mollie Billingsley, Louiza Garayeva,  and Lauren Harper. Swimmer Maddie Hess broke individual records in the 100yard and 200yard backstroke events, and those two events along with her time in the 200yard freestyle earned her a spot at the National Club Swimming Association Junior National Meet held in Orlando, FL March 15-19, 2011.

Brandon, FL. December 17, 2010. On December 4 and 5, 2010, Barbara Carabello and Celi Guzman became the 13-14 and 9-10 Puerto Rican National Champions at The San Juan Natatorium. Both girls swam very well, with Celi posting three first place swims and one third place. Barbara posted six first place swims, five of which were new 13-14 Girls' (Age Group) Puerto Rican records. Blue Wave Swim Team Scores Big At Junior Olympics  E-mail

Orlando, FL. The 14 and under Blue Wave Junior Olympic Squad concluded their Long Course season at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando. Our swimmers represented Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center proudly with a 12 place overall team finish.  Throughout the course of the meet, the squad was able to earn 75 best times while winning titles and spots in the top 8 and 16.

The Blue Wave Swim Team at The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center is proud to announce that Celi Guzman, Age 9, and Barbara Caraballo, 14 swam extremely well at the Nationals Championship in Puerto Rico. Celi earned 4 gold medals and 2 silver, while Barbara earned 11 gold medals, broke 10 Puerto Rican records and 6 Blue Wave Swim Team Records. Celi is coached by Morag Betz and Ryan Leach, and Barbara is coached by Don LaMont.

Senior Kati Kyle was awarded Female Swimmer of the Year, and the Newsome Boys Swim Team achieved the High Grade Point Average award.

13 Year Old Blue Wave Swimmer Takes Silver Medal  E-mail
