11u Southshore Rockets - July 1, 2015  E-mail
Written by George Hunter, Rockets Coach

Our very own 11u Southshore Rockets travel baseball team (Riverview, FL) competed in the 2015 AAU Grand National Baseball Championships this past week at the Disney/ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.  Baseball teams came from all across the country to compete in this week-long national invitational baseball tournament. Our 11u Rockets battled through eight games and two rounds of pool play defeating some very tough teams out of Maryland, Georgia and Florida to advance to the AAU National Championship Game where they faced off against the 11u Central Florida Wolverines/Hoyle team for the national title. A top 15 nationally-ranked team, the Wolverines/Hoyle saved their ace on the mound for the National Championship Game against the Rockets, who soundly defeated Wolverines/Hoyle by a score of 9 to 1 in the second round of pool play.  Holding onto a very slim 2 to 1 lead through 5 2/3 innings, the Rockets unfortunately gave up a couple of late runs and eventually fell by a final score of 3 to 2, earning a silver medal as the AAU National Championship Runner-Up. We are extremely proud of how ourRockets boys competed throughout the year, and in particular, this final tournament of the 11u travel baseball season.  From this experience, these Rockets will have fond memories that will no doubt last a lifetime.  Congratulations to the 11u Southshore Rockets!
