Tampa, FL – Daniel Alvarez, Sr. was recently named the Vice Chair of the 2015 Hillsborough County Charter Review Board. He was elected by a super majority of the Board’s fourteen members at its organizational meeting on February 12, 2015 at the County Center in downtown Tampa.
“To be chosen by the members to help lead such an important Board is an honor that is hard to describe,” said Alvarez. “The role of the Charter review board is so important to this County that just being chosen to be a part of it is remarkable. To be its Vice-Chair is a privilege I could have never imagined.”
Hillsborough voters adopted the Home Rule Charter in 1983 to allow for more effective local government. Its rules mandate that an independent board be called every five years to review and examine the Charter. The meetings are open to the public.
“This is a very big responsibility that I do not take lightly. The Charter was created to give the people the highest level of home rule and I plan on listening to those people who it is meant to serve,” Alvarez said.
Mr. Alvarez, an Army veteran, was appointed by Commissioner Sandy Murman and is the Managing Member and founder of The Alvarez Legal Group, PL. in Tampa, Florida. He practices Personal Injury, Business Law, Trusts and Estates and Entertainment Law. He is a Business Law Professor at the University of Tampa, President of the Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Board and was appoi nted to the Hillsborough County Children’s Services Advisory Board in 2010.
