Lithia, FL – The Four-Time Florida Marching Band Coalition Finalist Newsome High School Wolfpack Marching Band kicks off another marching season with its show entitled “Genius”, a medley of classic Beethoven pieces. Practices began one week after school ended in June in preparation for the upcoming season. Under the co-direction of Christopher Allen and Christian inch, the band has been hard at work all summer long, completing a week of heat intensified band camp, as well as its 8 to 10 hour per week practice schedule.

After observing the band at Newsome’s preseason game and as the official season gets underway, it is easy to see why this band has risen to the level of state finalist in recent years. Christopher Allen joined Team Newsome last spring, following the departure of Gregory Basham, who is currently the assistant principal of curriculum at Blake High School. Newsome’s award winning auxillary, The Blue Angels, continues to shine again this season under the direction of Scottie Basham. It is absolutely amazing to see how much intelligence, musical ability, physical stamina, and hard work goes into each and every performance.

“We are extremely excited about this year. We have a tremendous group of students who have been working extremely hard all summer long preparing the show and learning how to work together as a team. So much of what we do depends on the students abilities to work well together and trust one another. It takes a great deal of hard work and mental toughness to do this activity at such a high level and the students impress us on a daily basis,” says Christian Allen. Mr. Allen and Mr. Finch are both excited about the upcoming competition season and are preparing the 135-plus member band to lead Newsome, once again, to the FMBC (Florida Marching Band Coalition). Now with national notoriety, The Wolfpack Marching Band is a competitive force to be reckoned with.

On October 30, 2010 Newsome will host a dozen area marching bands at its annual Newsome Marching Band Festival. Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at the door. Area businesses who are interested in providing food and/or sponsorships for the event can contact Penny Carey-Stratton at (813) 685-3536. For more information, please visit www.newsomeband.com.
